A quote by Imam Ghazali has been going around the internet which states, "Whoever says that all music is prohibited, let him claim that the songs of birds are also prohibited." I fear that this is being hugely misinterpreted, especially by some of the young folk. Could anyone (preferably someone qualified) give me a concise interpretation of Imam Ghazali's statement? What did he mean by "all music." What is the Arabic that this was translated from? Did it really say "music" or did it say something like "song", because that would make a huge difference.
