I was recently visiting another mosque and was introduced to brother.
After we said the obligatory salams; I introduced myself and said my name was David.
The brother inquired why I didn't use the name Dawud?
I told him that he could call me Dawud if he wished. But there was really no difference between the names.
He told me it was wrong to use the Christian name David.
I countered by saying the name David was used in the Torah. And that it predates the advent of Islam by thousands of years. Thus it's use it perfectly valid.
The brother became visibly upset and wanted to argue the point.
I broke off the conversation because I needed to do salat; and thankfully didn't see the brother around after I finished.
Agree or disagree??
