al-Salamu `Aleykum wa Rahmatullah,
I don't really know how to begin this thread, but there has been a lot of discussions going on lately, on this forum and all over the internet regarding the situation in Syria, I used to participate to an extent in some of those discussions but I stopped simply because I felt that there was too much stupidity and low levels of intelligence being involved... Now I don't claim to be a genius and maybe it is me who is extremely stupid, the readers can tell me after reading this thread.
In Syria, a Kafir by consensus of the Muslims is ruling, and by Kafir I do not mean a Muslim ruler who became corrupt and fell in love with this material world and forgot about the after-life then sided with the enemies of the nation just to stay in power, rather I mean a legitimate Kafir and enemy of the nation who has corrupt `Alawite beliefs to begin with...
Now I don't wish to talk about this guy... I talk about our situation as I see it, many believe that we are all stuck, a part of a bigger world conflict between the two super-powers and their allies who have been fighting since the cold war, a battle between two camps, or two empires... Russia and the US.
Syria is also stuck in this conflict, its regime a follower and strong ally of Russia, while those who struggle to overthrow it are being funded by the US or some countries who are very good allies with the US.
I myself have chosen one of the sides, I believe I chose the side of Allah and his Prophet (SAWS), in the eyes of some people I chose the side of the evil Zionist, big difference don't you think?
A problem indeed... this happens as well to some Muslims who unfortunately joined the other side, believing that this is a plot by the Zionists to weaken Syria, the country of "resistance".
But we're also not here to talk about me and what I believe, we are here to talk about a key issue, an argument presented by those who join the Syrian regime's side, an argument I could never understand...
Here it is and I'm sure many of you have heard it a billion times, you ask them:
"Why not support the mujahideen against the Asad regime? why instead defend the regime?"
The reply:
"I can never support the so called "mujahideen" in Syria, they are funded by the US and Saudi, allies of Israel, the Syrian regime is the regime of resistance."
Let me tell you why this argument never makes sense...
Israel: The Jews from Ahlul-Kitab, mainly kicked out of Europe by the Christians, have moved to an Islamic country, they expelled the native population to refugee camps by force and killed many, they started to slowly take over as much of that country as they could, and are now an oppressive Jewish occupation inside Muslim lands.
Out of haste and because it is common knowledge, I refer to Wikipedia for some numbers:
According to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute, 13,000 Israelis and Palestinians were killed in conflict with each other between 1948 and 1997.[219] Other estimations give 14,500 killed between 19482009.[219][220] Palestinian fatalities during the 1982 Lebanon War were 2,000 PLO combatants killed in armed conflict with Israel.[221]
Now obviously this isn't the total number, there's thousands of others who died in the Arab-Israeli conflict since the early 20th century, maybe the Arabs/Muslims alone suffered around 40 thousand casualties since the beginning of the conflict.
Regardless of the accuracy of numbers, it is commonly known and agreed upon by All Muslims that Israel is an occupying Jewish force, that killed a couple of tens of thousands of Muslims.
Based on the above, it is perfectly understandable that YES, you wouldn't want to be a supporter for anyone who is being funded by allies of such a filthy country like Israel.
However, this is one side of the coin... the Syrian regime does not hide its strong ties with the Russians nor do the Russians hide their ties and support of the Syrian regime, they receive both military and political help from them, and the Russians have a base in Syria.
What does this mean?
Russia: A country of communism although they wouldn't admit it, they are famous for fighting and occupying surrounding Muslims lands, and oppressing their people... In the famous battles of Afghanistan the Russians killed many Muslims, we quote Wikipedia for quick numbers:
Antonio Giustozzi (2000). War, politics and society in Afghanistan, 19781992. Hurst. ISBN 1-85065-396-8. "A tentative estimate for total mujahideen losses in 1980-02 may be in the 150180,000 range, with maybe half of them killed."
So about 180,000 Muslim fighters were killed by Russians in Afghanistan, as for the Muslim civilians:
Civilians (Afghan):
850,0001,500,000 killed[20][21]
all in all maybe 1.6 million Muslims were killed in their war with the Russian occupying forces in Afghanistan.
And the Russians occupied Azerbaijan and oppressed its Muslims and according to Wiki:
As many as 20,000 Azerbaijani soldiers died resisting what was effectively a Russian reconquest.
And God knows how many Muslim civilians the Russians killed there as probably no records were kept
Also they had occupied and oppressed Muslims in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. Let alone the killings in the southern Russian lands where Muslims are majority, such as Chechen... It is also stated that 255,000 Muslims were Killed In Russias War Against the Caucasus Region... Today there are 80 million Muslims in the areas who were under Soviet rule, these people were oppressed, many of them killed, in fact Russian leaders at the time were killing huge numbers of people, Stalin is estimated to have killed 20 million people, while Lenin is estimated to have killed 6 million.
I Add that to this day many Muslims are still being killed by Russian forces, the stories that I myself heard from Muslims living in southern Russia are horrible.
And you can research more, and the more you research and ask, the more you will find from their atrocities against Muslims.
THE POINT IS THIS
IF any Muslim frowns on the Saudi monarchy because they are allied with the west, then he has the right to do so.
BUT IF this Muslim at the same time, supports the Syrian regime who is allied with Russia/China/Iran (We haven't spoken about the atrocities of the last two), then this Muslim is either ignorant or confused or dumb or a hypocrite.
AND IF a Muslim defends the Syrian regime and supports them although they are being supported by Russia and allied with Russia, while opposing and criticizing the Mujahideen fighting against them because they are funded by some regimes who are friendly with Israel, then this Muslim is either ignorant or confused or dumb or a hypocrite.
Clarifications for those of ill-intentions and of not much wisdom:
Did I write this article to make light of Israeli atrocities?
NO, they're just as vile and evil as their Russian counter-parts, two sides of the same coin.
Why do I support the Mujahideen in Syria if much of their funding is coming from the enemy?
Because the men fighting on the ground, most are sincere and are fighting the regime of tyranny and Kufr for the sake of Allah, they do not mind where the funding is coming from.
Do I support the Syrian opposition living in the west?
No, they are enemies.
Do I believe all armed opposition groups in Syria are clean and righteous?
No, some of these groups are infiltrated, some are working for intelligence agencies, roaming freely and trying to execute outside orders and agendas that are not in the best interests of Islam.
Am I trying to make the point that Bachar's Syrian regime is equivalent to a pro-Zionist regime or worse?
Yes.
