As-salamu alaykum.
I was told a story about a Muslim man whose mother threatened to starve herself to death if he did not renounce Islam. The man then told his mother that he did not care if she died three times, he would not renounced Islam. When this story reached either Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) or one of the Caliphs (may Allah be pleased with them), the man was rebuked and told not to disrespect his mother in such a way, even in such a circumstance.
I do not know what the source of this story is, Hadith or elsewhere, nor do I know how authentic it is. Could someone please point me in the direction of scholarly sources for this story?
JazakAllahu Khayran for your help.
