Caffeine addiction

:salam:

Last week I seem to have overdosed on the caffeine, my brain was fried, my muscles twitched and I felt tired all the time. I guessed it was caffeine, even though I only drank three cups a day: 2 cups morning, 1 cup in the afternoon.

I tried to quite cold turkey, with no coffee or tea. The first day I had cravings in the afternoon, but I ignored it. On the second day I got a headache and was unable to concentrate. I read online that they were withdrawal symptoms of caffeine.

I was a bit shocked. If coffee has withdrawal symptoms, then it is addictive?

I couldn't do it cold turkey. I have a deadline coming and can't afford the withdrawal symptoms. So I'm limiting myself to one mug of tea (chai from an Indian restaurant) in the morning with breakfast.

I once knew a Salafi who refused to drink tea (but did not forbid me from drinking it). I also read that some of the early ulema refused to have anything to do with coffee, and some of the Ottoman rulers tried to ban it... unsuccessfully, because the Turks are very fond of coffee!

I do not believe coffee or tea is haram, but you can have too much of a good thing. Once the deadline is over I'll try to completely quit. I understand now why smokers find it so hard to stop smoking! Withdrawal is very unpleasant!

At the same time I am now practicing Qigong and Tai Chi in the morning after fajr, in order to reduce my chronic exhaustion. It didn't work well at first, until I made intention "Ya Allah, let these exercises be asbab for good health and healing". I'm feeling better and can code, analyze and write again, although I still have to stop working after some hours... clearly I am not back to being Superman, Batman or even Pac-Man.

But maybe at the level of Supergran.

There's still that matter of caffeine. I dislike the idea of being addicted, and I am dismayed I let myself get attached to caffeine.
