:salam:
:bism:

I have noticed that whenever I have recorded and uploaded my audio recordings to various websites like 4shared, SkyDrive, DropBox or downloaded audio's from the above websites, the whole process can be such a drag, all we really want is to just listen to them in our leisure time, for ex. when driving, when travelling etc, but when you save the audio file in:

1. Your PC / Laptop diskdrive:
You need to switch it on, locate the file and then hit the play button.

2. On SkyDrive / Google Docs / Archive.org:

You can't stream the audio on the above sites, so you'll have to download the file to play it.
a) Assuming you don't have the audio file on your PC.
b) Assuming you are using your friends' PC.
c) Assuming your PC disk drive has crashed and erased all your data.

3. On 4Shared:
You can stream your audio files without having to download but as far as I know it can be done only on a PC/Mac, not on other devices.

Don't you think all that is so tedious for one to listen to a bayan / lecture in peace??

But when it comes to uploading the same audio bayan on YouTube, look at the advantages:

1. You can listen to it wherever you want, YouTube has become soooo ubiquitous that I don't think there is a multimedia device on planet Earth that DOES NOT have native support to the video sharing website. Indeed, even low cost phones and multimedia devices are sold on the basis of the native (built in) support they have for the YouTube app.

2. You can listen to the lectures on an iPad, iPod, iPhone, Symbian phones, Blackberry's, Windows Mobile 7 based phones, of course Android too, Samsung Bada, Nokia Meego, practically every device these days supports YouTube.

Got the point?

Now, lets look at the issues one may face when trying to upload your audio to YouTube and how to overcome them.

Q1: I can only upload audio/video upto 15 mins, and if the lecture is more than the 15 minute duration, I'll have to divide the audio into parts which is time consuming and loads of extra work 'coz bayans are usually much longer than 15 minutes.

Answer: The duration is limited only to new users, on your YouTube account if you haven't uploaded any copyright work and hence if Shaykh Google things you are a 'good & responsible' user, Google, after a certain period (in my case 2-3 months) lets you upload more than 15 mins, I have actually uploaded a lecture which is of a 155 mins length.

How do you become a 'good and responsible' YouTube user for Shaykh Google to reward you by removing the 15 minute bottleneck?

Create an account, upload fairly popular nasheeds which are not copyrighted, get about 30 users to subscribe to your channel, wait. I did all of those, only that I really had some original stuff that was nowhere on YouTube. That worked for me. It really isn't a big deal, actually.
Q2: Its a lot of work to upload the audio lectures on YouTube, I don't have time to edit it out and upload it.

Answer: The whole reason for uploading the lecture is to save time and effort for listening to it at any given time and also (most importantly) spreading the message to millions around the world.

Yet, actually there is no real effort to speak of if you want to upload the audio to YouTube. Why?

For ex. For a 1 hour lecture, the size of a high quality mp3 audio file recorded in 64 kbps bit rate (which is more than enough) is about 25mb - 28mb, while we do know that we can't upload an mp3 file directly to YouTube, there is a way around this problem and as you might have noticed on YouTube already, many have got around this problem by combining an image (picture) and the audio (the audio file you have recorded) playing in the background thus creating a 'video' file that YouTube recognizes.

Yet, there are people who make an unnecessary mistake while creating such sort of a video in Windows Live Movie Maker, which is to use 'Common Settings' in the 'Save Movie' dropdown menu: 'for high definition display' 'for DVD' 'for computer' 'for email'.

By using the above settings, the Movie Maker creates a much unneeded and a huge video file which takes its own sweet time when you finally try uploading it YouTube, for ex. The 25mb audio file plus the image will end up ultimately somewhere around as a 250-270 mb file once processed by Movie Maker*. Imagine the kind of bandwidth costs / usage that could result in (for a single lecture), not to forget the tight slap you could end up having from your dad once the broadband bill arrives at the door ;-)

*YouTube re-compresses anything you upload to it using its own compression settings, all of this you can just walk by as you need not worry over this as this whole tutorial is meant to upload a simple audio lecture and not a 'Music' file, so you won't lose on the audio quality (even if it is, it will surely be unnoticeable), InshaAllah.

Whats the proof, pluto?
a) Listen to Salman Hussaini Nadvi's lecture in Urdu or Arabic which I uploaded recently on YouTube. Here and Here
b) Listen to the original mp3 file of the above lecture I have uploaded on SkyDrive. Here
So,

Never use the 'Common Settings' for uploading the bayans if you wish to save time, Do Not even use the 'Mobile Device Settings' below the 'Common Settings':

Go straight to 'Create Custom Setting' at the end of the 'Save Movie' dropdown menu and create a NEW custom setting with the following inputs:
Attachment 7137
This method will output a video file which is just about 55mb which you can then easily upload to YouTube without worrying about the bill and the tight slap.

In reality all you need to do are the following few steps to upload to YouTube:

In 'HOME' Tab in Windows Live Movie Maker:

1. Add photos

2. Add music (your audio file, locate and add)^ Besides 'Add Videos and photos'

Now, click on 'Project' Tab:

3. Click on 'Fit to music' and let all other settings remain the same as they were.
Attachment 7136

Go back to 'HOME' tab and click on 'Save Movie' then under 'Custom settings' click on 'Bayans / Lectures settings' and name your file and save in the location you want to on the disk drive, the Movie Maker will then process it for a few minutes, and you will then have a video file which you can upload to YouTube at leisure using an Internet browser.

Except for the uploading part, the whole process should take only about 5-6 minutes.

If you have any more questions, please let me know.

Just think:

Wherever you are in the world, you can listen to your favorite lectures, share them with everyone, even if you lose everything (may Allah SWT stop it from happening) at least your precious recorded audios will be safe and you would still be able to listen to them on your friends mobile phone, PC or an iPad :cheesygri Its another matter if something bad happens with Google's servers ;) May that never happen.

Correct me if I'm wrong and I humbly suggest, from here on, upload the bayans on YouTube before anywhere else.

**This minuscule effort is for the sake of Allah SWT.
