Brutal, heartless yet freed, why?

Call me weak if you must but this story broke me to pieces. Loveless, careless, merciless - yet he preached Islam in public with all the array of do's and don'ts. Unfortunately he is not alone.
May Allah guide me more to see the truth as truth and the false as false.
